Dear <<First Name>>,
If you could see me now, you’d see one very happy face: beaming from ear to ear, reflecting on the month that was September. It was, perhaps, one of the most significant periods of growth for DWP.
We traveled west and east, we trained volunteers, we danced with new friends, we got to meet, in-person, so many Zoom dancers from different parts of our country, and we are learning! Learning how to scale up, replicate and share DWP’s impactful movement program with new communities so that those who need it most have access to the same level of excellence that we offer in the greater Toronto area.
Our expansion began in Winnipeg, where, in collaboration with the U-Turn Parkinson’s movement team, we launched our first weekly, in-person dance class outside of Ontario. This class will be taught by DWP trained instructor Brenda Gorlick, and will be a very special opportunity for local dancers to come together as a community on a regular basis.
It was heartwarming to reconnect, brainstorm and dance with the Founder of U-Turn Parkinson’s, (and winner of the first season of the Amazing Race Canada!), Tim Hague Sr. I savoured the opportunity to hug our Winnipeg-based Zoom dancers who I have loved getting to know “virtually” over the years! Moments like these serve as a beautiful reminder that dance has a unique power to foster meaningful bonds.
Another memorable highlight was being invited to the home of Keith Strachan, who regularly joins DWP’s online classes, to lead the Daily Dance Connect from his living room! Keith blew me away with his impressive moves – you’d think we had practiced the choreography beforehand! He and his wife Cheryl made me feel so welcome – I didn't want to leave!
From Winnipeg, the DWP team and I got on the road bound for Ottawa! We were so touched when Kanta Marwah, DWP Zoom dancer and hugely accomplished woman living with PD, reached out earlier in the summer inviting us to visit her in the nation’s capital. Our time with Kanta, dancing together for the Daily Dance Connect and learning her remarkable story, was nothing less than an absolute gift.
While in Ottawa we also connected with other Ottawa-based partners to deliver demo classes with our incredible local teachers, Kathleen Legassick and Nancy Pidgeon. We were moved to dance together in-person, and I especially loved getting to know more of you during our after class chats. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that regular weekly DWP classes will be starting in Ottawa this Fall! Stay tuned for details!
Heading into October, our hearts are full, our minds are buzzing and our feet are itchy to keep going! We have never felt more ready to step into this exciting phase of DWP’s ongoing expansion across Canada. Next stop…PEI! (As an aside: I was reminded in both Winnipeg and Ottawa that my online persona is apparently “taller” than my real-life stature, so get ready, PEI: I’ll be coming for you in high heels!)
We are forever changed and deeply grateful for your trust, your openness and your support. It is with you in our minds and in our hearts that we continue to stretch and grow DWP’s mission to improve the quality of life and resilience of our dancers through the limitless transformative power of dance. Thank you for joining us on this exciting ride!
My best,
Sarah Robichaud

Live and In-Person from Winnipeg and Ottawa!
"Through the universal language of dance, we weave an intricate tapestry of human connection. This is a dance of togetherness that heals not only the body but the spirit.”
This could not have been more true than it was as Sarah led the Daily Dance Connect "live" from the homes of Keith Strachan in Winnipeg and Kanta Marwah in Ottawa!
Being welcomed and embraced by each of them—by all of you—leaves a profound mark. And we are deeply committed to doing the same in return: whether it be connecting you with other local dancers and groups, or setting up in-person classes, our intention is to leave a lasting legacy for you to enjoy and benefit from every single day.
Thank you for inviting us into your lives and making ours so special. We are endlessly grateful for you.

Art, Jewelry, Friends and DANCE!
On a recent sunny weekend in September while at an art show in Toronto, DWP dancer and jewelry maker Linda Attrill (read about her Slice of Life below!), not wanting to miss the 11am Daily Dance Connect, logged into the online class from her booth! Friend and fellow dancer, Louisa Helander happened to be in the area, so the two of them pulled a couple of chairs into the sun, and danced together with Paloma. Bringing new truth to our promise that you really can dance with DWP from wherever you are!

Meet Jerry "I Met the Walrus" Levitan!
On Tuesday, October 25th at 11:30am EST, we will be joined by DWP's great friend, Jerry Levitan, who will share his story about the time he interviewed John Lennon.
In May 1969, Jerry, then a 14-year old Beatles fan, tracked John Lennon and Yoko Ono down when they were visiting Toronto. He convinced them to do an interview with him about peace, and created this short video documenting his experience meeting them.
Jerry will join us right after the Daily Dance Connect, so stick around — this is quite a story!

Star Studded Lineup at the Parkinson Canada SuperWalk!
We had such a great time dancing at the Parkinson Canada’s SuperWalks in Toronto and Vaughan last month!
Our Founder and CEO Sarah Robichaud led an energetic dance break with two very special guest star backup dancers: leading Parkinson’s neurologist, Dr. Lorraine Kalia, and Parkinson Canada’s CEO, Dr. Karen Lee. This was such an impactful way to showcase DWP’s important partnership with Parkinson Canada, and to celebrate the heartfelt commitment of DWP Board Member, Dr. Kalia.
At the Vaughan SuperWalk, Robin got families, care partners and people living with PD warmed up and ready to move in support of this very important cause! We loved seeing so many of you in-person. Thank you for dancing with us!

"The Creation of Custom Jewelry" with Linda Attrill
This month, we heard from Linda Attrill: teacher, creator and retailer of custom-made jewelry.
Linda took us through her creative process in the production of her one-of-a-kind pieces. Linda has an incredible knack for finding unique vintage jewelry, deconstructing them and then creating something brand new with extra special touches.
While displaying her pieces at a recent art show, Linda logged into the Daily Dance Connect at 11am to dance with the DWP community "live" from her booth!
Linda, thank you so much for sharing your craft, and for your dedication to dancing with us!

"The Life of a Performer" with Sarah Murphy-Dyson
We were so fortunate to hear from one of DWP's incredible instructors, Sarah Murphy-Dyson, about her journey as a professional dancer!
Sarah took us through her early years as a budding ballerina, her experiences on the stage and travelling around the world, how she came to work as a stunt-double for many well-known celebrities and ended up an accomplished actor in her own right!
It was so exciting and fascinating to hear your story, Sarah! Thank you for sharing your incredible photos and tales from the road (and stage!). We certainly won't soon forget that we are dancing with a celebrity every time you lead a DWP class!

Our "Slice of Life" series offers opportunities for DWP participants to share stories, life experiences, hobbies and passions for all of us to get to know one another better and possibly, learning something new.

"I am writing to express my appreciation for the services that "Dancing with Parkinson's" offers. We were offered an in-person dance class by one of the program's instructors, and my residents absolutely loved the class. My residents had so much fun being creative, learning new styles of dance, and telling a story through music. The instructor worked well with each of my resident's abilities and interests and made the class so fun! The music choice was great, the movements were simple and easy to follow, and we loved how inclusive the class was. My building is working on getting a TV in our Activity Room, so we can access the online classes weekly. Thank you so much to "Dancing with Parkinson's" for reaching out and giving us this opportunity to experience their dance classes."
